SES: Raytheon - Naval Successor Identification Friend or Foe
Under subcontract to Raytheon Systems Ltd, SES are developing a VCS variant of a
Successor Identification Friend or Foe (SIFF) controller for ship borne transponders
and interrogators.
The contract will see SES delivering controllers onto many of the active and future
ships that make up the British Navy.
A major contract has been awarded to Raytheon Systems for the supply of SIFF equipment
onto a variety of land, sea and air platforms. The SIFF equipment includes Transponders,
Interrogators and Intelligent Control panels designed and manufactured by SES.
The naval version of the SIFF remote control panel is available in two forms, providing
control and interaction capability with either a Transponder or Interrogator, and
in both cases within the standard VCS space envelope.
SIFF installations on naval platforms are due to commence in 2002 on Submarines,
Minehunters, Frigates, Destroyers and Auxiliary ships, as well as ASTUTE and Type
45 in the future.
Future vessels onto which the SIFF equipment will be deployed include ASTUTE and
Type 45.
